Kalem 2.0

Emerging from the exploration of transformation, coexistence, and material memory, Kalem 2.0 is a sculptural wall lamp developed within the collaborative practice of NO ON studio by Yulian Mikov and Dimitar Vranchev.

The name Kalem derives from old Balkan terminology associated with grafting - the process of joining separate trees so they may continue growing together as a stronger, unified organism. This idea forms the conceptual foundation of the collection, which investigates the relationship between different materials, natural transformation, and the beauty found in imperfection and preservation.

Kalem 2.0 is handcrafted from discarded dried wood that has been preserved through traditional burning techniques, naturally blackening the material without the use of paint or synthetic finishes. This process enhances the texture and depth of the wood while preserving its organic identity and traces of time.

Defined by its minimal yet expressive silhouette, the piece balances raw materiality with sculptural elegance. Conceived as both an atmospheric lighting object and an artistic wall accent, Kalem 2.0 introduces warmth, tactility, and visual presence into interior environments.

Its refined composition allows it to integrate naturally into a wide range of contemporary spaces, including living rooms, bedrooms, hospitality interiors, hotel foyers, offices, and architectural settings.

More than a functional lighting object, Kalem 2.0 reflects the collection’s broader philosophy - the creation of new forms and meanings through the union, preservation, and transformation of existing matter.
