Point of melting 1.0

Point of Melting 1.0 is a sculptural lighting object exploring transformation as a state of becoming - a moment suspended between destruction and rebirth. Created within the collaborative practice of NO ON studio(a collaboration between Yulian Mikov and Dimitar), the piece reflects an ongoing investigation into the emotional and physical metamorphosis of matter.

In this work, the material is no longer perceived as static or permanent, but as something fluid and continuously evolving. Aluminum scrap, collected from discarded beer and soda cans, undergoes a process of dissolution through heat - shifting from solid to liquid, only to solidify once again into a new and unfamiliar form. The object preserves the memory of its previous existence while simultaneously transcending it, embodying a new identity shaped by transformation itself.

The lighting element, formed from a hand-shaped neon tube, introduces a soft atmospheric glow that contrasts with the raw, molten character of the cast aluminum surface. This dialogue between light and materiality creates a tension between fragility and permanence, control and unpredictability.

More than a lamp, Point of Melting becomes a reflection on impermanence, material memory, and the poetic beauty of transition - revealing how matter, much like human experience, continuously transforms while carrying traces of what it once was.

Point of melting 1.0 was a part of the ‘New valuable’ 2025 exhibition at Etar museum, Gabrovo, Bulgaria and now is a part of the museum’s permanent artefacts.
